Read this with my daughter, she enjoyed the illustrations more than the narrative (especially the polar bears)。 Cute book!

This has a good message but there are some things I find problematic as in most of Nancy Tillman's books。 Like another reviewer said, "the kid is subsequently meant to understand that she's so extraordinary, that the geese honk all morning and the bears dance all night。。。" which was what the book was about。 It's all a bit too much。 I get that it's to lift up kids who are feeling insecure about themselves or have low self-esteem, but saying things like "you're so special that the moon stays awake This has a good message but there are some things I find problematic as in most of Nancy Tillman's books。 Like another reviewer said, "the kid is subsequently meant to understand that she's so extraordinary, that the geese honk all morning and the bears dance all night。。。" which was what the book was about。 It's all a bit too much。 I get that it's to lift up kids who are feeling insecure about themselves or have low self-esteem, but saying things like "you're so special that the moon stays awake during the day" is bordering on encouraging narcissism, which is a bit disturbing。 。。。more

Wonderful book that will help a young child see how unique they are - fantastic art。

Begin as you mean to go on: The cover is a treacly sweet picture of waltzing polar bears, and the rest of the book lives up to it。 The book's artwork is beautiful, almost like stained glass in places and near photorealistic in others。 It's like a collage, all about this nameless child (the child being read to, I assumed) is celebrated by all of heaven and nature because they are unique and special and wonderful。 And when any animal lingers near them for any length of time, or the clouds part, it Begin as you mean to go on: The cover is a treacly sweet picture of waltzing polar bears, and the rest of the book lives up to it。 The book's artwork is beautiful, almost like stained glass in places and near photorealistic in others。 It's like a collage, all about this nameless child (the child being read to, I assumed) is celebrated by all of heaven and nature because they are unique and special and wonderful。 And when any animal lingers near them for any length of time, or the clouds part, it is only happening because all of creation wants to see them smile! Seems like a lot of pressure in a bedtime story, but ok。 Wife's take: Do you want sociopaths? Because this is how you get sociopaths。 No one show this book to Eloise! There'll be absolutely no living with her。 Kiddo: Puppy! Wife: Polar bears。Kiddo, making hard eye contact: Pup-pee! 。。。more

I really do like this book, but it’s difficult to know what all the words are because my mom always starts to cry halfway through。 Excellent artwork!

Such a sweet book; this one is going in the hospital bag so that I can read it to Albany after she is born :)

While this was a beautiful book, to me, it was the illustrations that really carried this book。 They were simply gorgeous。

First of all, A does not enjoy this book。 Secondly, her mother finds it to be overrated and the rhyme/rhythm to be paltry。 That is all。

This is one of the first books that I bought Logan when doing a random online shop in the first lockdown。 I had never heard of it before but it was on offer so I thought why not I’ll see what it’s like。 When it arrived, I instantly fell in love with the writing and the idea that your baby is the most special little human being ever born ( to you that is)。 Some people may find it gushy or over sentimental but as a first time mum who was in a very emotional place it captured exactly how I felt abo This is one of the first books that I bought Logan when doing a random online shop in the first lockdown。 I had never heard of it before but it was on offer so I thought why not I’ll see what it’s like。 When it arrived, I instantly fell in love with the writing and the idea that your baby is the most special little human being ever born ( to you that is)。 Some people may find it gushy or over sentimental but as a first time mum who was in a very emotional place it captured exactly how I felt about my little one。 The illustrations are just beautiful and I never get tired of reading this to my baby- it always makes me feel warm and full of love and I hope Logan will grow to love it as much as I do。 。。。more

A cute board book to read to your little one。 A very sweet message of how there is only one of you in the world and that you're special。 If someone or something brings you down - just know you are loved。 It is easy to read, has cute little illustrations, and has a nice message。 I would like to note that it seems to have just a smidgen of religious (Christian/Catholic) undertones since it does mention Heaven。 A cute board book to read to your little one。 A very sweet message of how there is only one of you in the world and that you're special。 If someone or something brings you down - just know you are loved。 It is easy to read, has cute little illustrations, and has a nice message。 I would like to note that it seems to have just a smidgen of religious (Christian/Catholic) undertones since it does mention Heaven。 。。。more

The art and words in this book are beautiful。 The basic premise of the book is that the universe celebrates a baby's arrival on the planet。 The general idea is this: bears danced, geese flew, frogs sang, in celebration on the night you were born because there never has been and never will be another exactly like you。 The world will never be the same again because now you are in it。What a concept! I've always enjoyed this book, but especially enjoyed reading it today with my 3-year-old g'little。 I got the library version with the book & the CD。 She loved reading along and turning the pages。 She enjoyed wiggling her toes and saying her name and my name during the story。 I like the way the book celebrates the uniqueness of each person。 I've always enjoyed this book, but especially enjoyed reading it today with my 3-year-old g'little。 I got the library version with the book & the CD。 She loved reading along and turning the pages。 She enjoyed wiggling her toes and saying her name and my name during the story。 I like the way the book celebrates the uniqueness of each person。 。。。more

I love the pictures, water colors?? of nature, with an dreamy look to them。 Most parents, not all, but most do believe their child is the center of the universe。 At least at first until reality sets in。 I like the message that children are special, everyone is, but to go as far as everything in nature is living for the child is a far stretch。 Still it is a romantic notion。

On the night we were born, or do says Nancy Tillman in her book, polar bears danced, owls hooted and the wind whispered the newborn's name。Tillman obviously made an error in judgment but what can you do?In my case I was born and I was considered so special, if mom had her way, I would have been aborted with no problem。 Luckily I lived, and mom had to live with the pain, as evidenced in the style of her verbal abuse towards me。 When not abusive, she acted as though I was so precious to her, that On the night we were born, or do says Nancy Tillman in her book, polar bears danced, owls hooted and the wind whispered the newborn's name。Tillman obviously made an error in judgment but what can you do?In my case I was born and I was considered so special, if mom had her way, I would have been aborted with no problem。 Luckily I lived, and mom had to live with the pain, as evidenced in the style of her verbal abuse towards me。 When not abusive, she acted as though I was so precious to her, that my birth was greeted by pretty leaves in the driveway, left there by the warm October wind。 Moms usually lie like that。Tillman writes this for children with hood intentions at heart。 Unfortunately so did Judy Blume when she wrote that thing on female menstruations。Three stars (for effort)Every kid is born special, but not because Tillman says so。 。。。more
